WHO IS JCBC?

If you landed on this page and are not sure who JCBC (Junction Craft Beverage Co.) is, JCBC is the producer of this NA beer keg and who we partner with on NA beer. Based in Toronto Canada, JCBC operates a food grade co-manufacturing facility that specialises in non-alcoholic beverages production.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT BETWEEN DRAUGHT BEER AND DRAUGHT NA BEER?

The most obvious and important difference between non-alcoholic (NA) beer and standard beer is simply the lack of alcohol in the beer. Although these two products are largely the same in terms of materials and processes employed to brew them, and in physical/chemical attributes such as carbonation, pH, colour, and bitterness, the lack of alcohol in NA beer creates unique risks and vulnerabilities that require understanding and control.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN TO NA BEER IF NOT PROPERLY CARED FOR?

Due to the lack of alcohol in NA beer, contamination from poorly maintained draught faucets and dispensing systems allows spoilage microorganisms like Lactobacillus, Pediococcus, and Brettanomyces to grow and proliferate more rapidly than standard beer. This means biofilms in draught lines and dispensing systems are likely to form much faster than with standard beer, leading to far more rapid spoilage. Additionally, and most importantly, unlike standard beer, NA beer lacks the natural protection against foodborne pathogens that alcohol provides. This means NA beer is capable of harbouring harmful microorganisms like E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus. Poorly maintained draught systems and improper sanitation practices have the potential to contaminate NA beer with these harmful foodborne pathogens, which if consumed, could lead to serious illness.

ALTHOUGH UNLIKELY, SOMEONE COULD CONTRACT FOOD POISONING FROM CONSUMING NA BEER, THE RISK IS NOT ZERO.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO ENSURE A GREAT TASTING AND SAFE PRODUCT?

To minimize the risk of spoilage and food poisoning, all NA draught beer produced by JCBC is fully pasteurized before filling. We also use single use disposable kegs to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination during the keg filling process.

To ensure beer quality and food safety after tapping a keg, JCBC requires licensees to implement these basic best practices:

  1. NA beer must be dispensed on a dedicated draught line.

  2. A full, intensive cleaning must be performed on any standard beer line before tapping an NA beer on that same draught line

  3. Draught lines for NA beer should not exceed 10 feet.

  4. Intensive line cleaning, including complete faucet teardown, cleaning, and sanitation, must be performed on NA draught lines every seven days.

  5. Drain 5x the hold-up volume of the draught line daily before service

  6. Spray the faucet with 70% isopropyl alcohol or an equivalent food safe sanitizer and cap it daily at the end of service.

  7. Establish a process to monitor and log the beer temperature from keg to faucet, ensuring it never exceeds 3°C.

  8. Have a system in place for tracking how long kegs have been on tap.

  9. NA beer should not remain tapped for longer than 2 weeks.

SINGLE USE KEGS

JCBC utilizes single use kegs for NA draught beer. These kegs are similar to standard stainless steel kegs but it is important to note manufacturer storage and safety instructions when using.:

CHEMICAL SAFETY

  • Kegs are food safe approved and made with food grade PET.

  • Avoid using solvents near the keg - Solvents can damage the PET material and cause a failure in the keg.

STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Store securely away from adverse weather. Sunlight and temperature fluctuations can impact the keg.

  • Do not store on side, do not roll the keg.

  • Store the kegs at a constant temperature. If storing at high heat, the shelf life of the keg is reduced.

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

  • Keep away from sharp objects, keg is under pressure.

  • Rough handling can damage the keg body and keg chimes and therefore the reliability of the product.

  • Maximum working pressure of 3.1 Bar, 45 PSI.

NA Beer Keg Collar

NA BEER KEG COLLARS

Similar to a typical stainless steel keg, on the top of each JCBC produced NA beer keg, you should find a Keg Collar that identifies the beer type, brand, packaged date, batch ID and opened on.

We strongly recommend filling out the "Opened On" line so your team knows when to change the keg if not empty. This process helps minimise time on the line and supports a safe product for your customers.

In the Keg Collar example shown, the keg was opened on June 6, 2026 meaning that you need to sell through or replace by June 23rd, 2026
